About Me
Iβm so happy youβre here! Please stay a while!
I’m a generalist Ob/Gyn
Hi, I am Jacqueline Sanchez. I am a Board Certified Assistant Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology in Miami, FL. I see women and patients assigned female at birth from all walks of life, aged 16 and beyond, in my clinic where I help them with their gynecologic and obstetric issues. I am also a Nationally Certified Menopause Practitioner and love taking care of women afflicted by menopause. In the hospital, I not only help delivery patients (either by vaginal delivery or cesarean section), but I also regularly perform gynecologic surgery. These surgeries include (but not limited to) hysterectomy, hysteroscopy, LEEP/Cone, cystectomy, and bilateral salpingectomy for sterilization.
Education
After high school, I went off and completed Bachelor degrees in Theater and Biology, a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and then my MD. I then returned to Miami to complete Ob/Gyn residency, where I stayed and again made Miami my home.
I am First-Generation
I’m a first generation Cuban-American, born and raised in Miami, FL. Growing up in Miami was easy — everyone around me was also first-gen! But navigating high school, university and eventually medical school was incredibly tough. The first-gen struggle to excel to one day pay your parents back is very real, but what an incredible reward to accomplish your dreams and theirs!
I am a BRCA 2 Previvor
After my mother lost her battle with metastatic breast disease, I had genetic testing that confirmed that I also carry the BRCA 2 gene mutation. Given my increased risk for breast cancer (and ovarian and pancreatic cancers, melanoma, et cetera), I have MRIs and mammograms every year. So far I am disease free!
Hang around my website and blog as I share with you my love for obstetrics and gynecology, journey in medicine, hobbies and personal life, and shed light on gender+race inequities. I will also be writing about grief and being a previvor. Ultimately, my goal is to provide inspiration to all who even identify with a small slice of my story. I hope you will stick along for the ride!
