In this post-Roe world where our bodily autonomy and reproductive freedoms are seemingly no longer ours to have, one can feel hopeless and helpless when thinking of our reproductive rights and futures. As a woman and Ob/Gyn, I am both gutted and terrified. Though states remain in control to decide abortion rights, you may well live in a state with a complete ban. And let’s face it — there’s no telling when our courts will implement a full nation-wide ban.
Below I have compiled resources for birth control, emergency contraception, and abortion pills. Check out this previous post with more information about what to do if your state has an abortion ban.
Reproductive Right: Birth Control
Here are some resources through which you can acquire birth control. Some of these websites even provide birth control without the need for insurance! Don’t forget that long-acting reversible contraceptives like the implant (Nexplanon) and IUDs (Copper or hormone) require prescription and placement by a health care provider.
- Nurx: Provides birth control pills, patches, the shot and vaginal rings.
- hers: Provides birth control pills.
- Lemonaid: Provides birth control pills, and a range of other medical treatments and services.
- Wisp: Provides birth control pills. It does not charge an online consultation fee.
- Favor (formerly known as The Pill Club): Provides birth control pills and vaginal rings.
- SimpleHealth: Provides birth control pills, patches and vaginal rings.
- Pandia Health: Provides birth control pills, patches and vaginal rings.
- TwentyEight: Provides birth control pills, patches, vaginal rings and internal condoms.

- Alpha: Provides birth control pills, patches and vaginal rings.
- GoodRx: Provides birth control pills, patches and vaginal rings.
Reproductive Right: Emergency Contraception
Below are some resources for emergency contraception (EC). The most effective methods for EC are either the Copper or Levonorgestrel IUDs, but, again, these need to be prescribed and placed by a healthcare provider. In order for the pills to be effective, must take 3-5 days after unprotected intercourse. These pills come with different efficacy warnings when taken by persons with higher BMIs. However, if your only option for EC is Plan B or Ella, there’s no reason not to take them. Less effective doesn’t necessarily mean that they will not work.
- Nurx: Provides generic Plan B and Ella.
- Wisp: Provides Plan B and Ella.
- Favor: Provides generic Plan B and Ella.
- PRJKTRUBY: Provides Ella.
- TwentyEight: Provides Plan B.
- Choix Health: Provides Plan B and Ella.
You can also use your birth control pills as emergency contraception. This is called the Yuzpe Method. For more info, watch this Instagram Reel I made and check out this website. For a list of pills and their quantities to take, you can reference this chart.
